May 14, 2014

Good morning.

I apologize for not getting the weekly Update out last Friday.  The day got away from me quickly.  I then intended to compose and send a message out over the weekend, but had my parents in from out of town and we spent the day celebrating Mothers Day on Sunday.  I hope the moms out there had a great Mothers Day as well.

Best wishes for a safe journey to our student members and coaches of the LMS Science Olympiad team as they travel to the national competition in Florida later this week.

Congratulations to LMS student Lauren Vanlandingham, who initiated and organized a successful community service project to benefit adolescents undergoing cancer treatments.  Great job, Lauren!

LMSPA Gift and Project Fundraiser
The following message is from the LMSPA:
You should have received a letter in the mail for the spring Gift & Project fundraiser.  Sixth and Seventh grade families received a general Gift & Project letter and 8th grade families received an 8th Grade Legacy Gift letter.  This fundraiser allows you to donate to the LMSPA in honor of our wonderful LMS Teachers and Staff.  For 8th grade, your donation will help fund the class legacy gift of an outside eating area for students.  In order to be included on the acknowledgement letters the staff receive, donations must be received by Thursday, May 15th.
Please visit the LMSPA website to donate online or for more information:   http://mylmspa.com/gift-project-fundraiser/

School Climate Survey
I think I posted a past message regarding valuing your input regarding school climate at LMS.  If I failed to do so, my apologies.
In either event, if you could please complete the survey at the link below, we would appreciate it.  The survey link will remain open until the end of the school year.

8th Grade Graduation/Parking
LMS 8th Grade Graduation will take place in our Gym on May 23, beginning at 12:00.  Due to limited parking, I have reserved a shuttle from Ladue Chapel, which should run from 11:30 am until around 3:00 pm.  Once the ceremony is completed, students may go home with parents.

Principal Survey
It seems that the end of each school year brings on “survey season.”  With my apologies for asking you to complete the following, I would appreciate you taking a few moments to provide me with feedback regarding this past school year and my performance (or lack thereof).  You can access this survey at:
There is also a box at the end if you wish to provide specific comments/feedback regarding our Grade Level Principals.  The survey will remain open for input through the conclusion of the school year.

LHWHS Sports Physicals for next year (for current 8th graders)
Attention all 2014-2015 LHWHS incoming freshmen!  Are you planning on participating in a high school sport next school year?  If so, the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Athletics Department must have a current physical and parent permission on file. Students are not eligible to try out for a sport without these documents on file. These forms must be dated on or AFTER February 1, 2014 to be valid for the 2014-2015 school year.  Completed forms can be turned into the Athletics office now through August 4, 2014 for fall sports. Please visit the Athletics tab on the Ladue Horton Watkins High School website to download the needed forms.
For the fourth year in a row, DUE CARE will sponsor physicals provided by Logan College of Chiropractic to all Ladue Horton Watkins High School students.  Physicals will only be $15 per student on Saturday, May 31 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in the LHWHS Cafeteria. Appointments are not needed!  However, parents must be present to sign all forms at the completion of the physical examination.  If you haven't made arrangements for getting a sports physical for the 2014-2015 school year, we encourage you to take advantage of this special opportunity. If you have any questions, please call the LHWHS Athletics and Activities Office at (314) 983-5421.
