Cross Country home meet
As indicated above, our home CC meet will occur on October 2, beginning around 4:15 pm near the Admin Center.  Parking should be available on the back blacktop, although we have no idea what number of cars to expect from other schools/parents.  The coaches are looking for 8th Grade parent volunteers for that afternoon.  If you can help, please contact any of the following:
Roger Scherck at rscherck@ladueschools.net
Karen Harris at kharris@ladueschools.net
Or
Jason Theodosiou at jtheodosiou@ladueschools.net

Fundraiser
As you may have heard, we held our Kickoff Fundraiser Assemblies this past Wednesday morning in the Gym.  Monies raised in this yearly effort go to our LMS Parent Association to help fund projects, activities and initiatives in our building.  A copy of a handout provided to students is attached to the Blackboard Connect email for your information.  Additional handouts and packets are available in both the Main Office and AP Office for those who need them.

School Picture Re-Takes
If your child was absent on the August 27 Picture Day, we will have a Re-Take Day on October 8.  Although you may not wish to order a picture packet, we do like all students to have their pictures updated for Infinite Campus.  If you ordered a picture packet from September 22, and there is something significantly wrong with the result, please have your child return their complete packet to the photographers for a re-take on October 8.

Ladue Junior Rams Baseball Program Meeting
October 6, 7pm; LMS Cafeteria
(The following is from Joe Mulligan, LMS Dads Club President)
In October 2013, the Ladue Junior Rams Baseball Program (the “Program”) was founded by the Ladue Middle School Dad’s Club in partnership and with the support of the Ladue Middle School, Ladue Fifth Grade Center, Ladue School District Athletic Association and the Ladue High School Baseball Program. The Program is not officially part of the Ladue School District, but was formed and shaped based upon input, feedback and involvement from these partner constituencies and the Ladue Schools community.  Following are the key features and goals of the Program:
·      Facilitate community and school spirit by enabling kids that attend Ladue Schools in grades 5 – 8 to play organized baseball together;
·      Avoid a tryout/cut system, but rather try to formulate one or more teams at each grade level comprised of kids with similar athletic talent levels and goals;
·      Maintain program flexibility that enables participants to use their Junior Rams Baseball team as either their primary or secondary baseball team, and
·      Provide participants with access to high quality coaching and training that is consistent with the standards and philosophies of the Ladue High School baseball program.
In the Program’s inaugural season, there were nine teams that were formed and began play in the Spring/Summer 2014 season. The teams consisted of both select and recreational skill levels and played in various leagues in the area, including Chesterfield, Clayton, Ballwin and Kirkwood.
The Program is in the process of planning for the Spring/Summer 2015 season. Our goal is to have all teams formed by no later than the first week of December. There will be a meeting on Monday October 6th at 7 pm in the LMS Cafeteria for parents and coaches interested in learning more about the Program. In the meantime, Program questions should be directed to LMS Dad’s Club President Joe Mulligan (joemulligan910@gmail.com or 314-503-4384) or Kris Weber (kris@pitchingmechanic.com or 314-494-6827).

Community Service Project
Jack Kahn, LMS 7th Grade student, is teaming up with Ready Readers to help St. Louis preschool-age children have their own books and could use your help.  He has placed a bin in front of the LMS Office to collect donated books you may have to provide through Friday, September 26.
·      Books should be for children age 5 and under.
·      Books should be new, like new or very gently used.
·      Books should be able to be read aloud (please, no chapter books, textbooks, activity books, workbooks, sticker books or coloring books).
·      Ready Readers is a non-sectarian organization, so they do not use books about religious holidays or books with religious themes.
Ready Readers is a non-profit organization that trains and mentors volunteers who read weekly to preschool-age children from low-income communities, and give children new books to help inspire them to want to learn to read.  They also give new and gently used books to the children’s schools and teachers.  For more information about reading to children, and giving, please visit www.readyreaders.org

Costa Rica Trip reminder
The deadline to sign up for the 8th grade Spring Break Costa Rica trip is October 1. If you need information or directions on how to sign up, please email Sarah Schwartz at saschwartz@ladueschools.net

Rams Club
Thanks to a grant from the LMSPA, the LMS Rams Club will start in a few weeks. The Rams Club offers an opportunity for 8th grade students who would like to stay after school and watch 8th grade home sports games/meets to do so in a supervised environment. On game days, students will spend the time in between when school ends and games start with an 8th grade teacher, doing homework and getting a free snack. Teachers will then escort them to the game. Games begin between 3:45-4:15 depending on the day. Students and parents must fill out a permission form in order to sign up and parents are responsible for transportation immediately following the game. Permission forms are available in the office and on the 8th grade sports webpage. All information about dates and times for the club are listed on the form. Spots are limited and are available on a first-come, first served basis. Students who want to watch games must be supervised and may not leave campus and return, so the Rams Club is a great opportunity for students who want to have school spirit!
