Congratulations

Happy Monday.

I hope you had a great weekend.  This one is pretty short.

After School Activities August 27 through October 10
After School Activities begin tomorrow, 3:10 to 4:10 p.m.  Your child does not have to register for any particular activity.  All they need to do is show up tomorrow afternoon.  We do require that all students who stay after dismissal for activities must be with a staff member for the entire period.
Activity Buses will be available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for those students who are currently on our district bus list.  They should be here for student loading around 4:40 p.m.  We try to get all five buses on site and loaded before releasing them from the front lot.  They will try to park near the Library, so if you are picking your child up by car, please do so closer to the Cafeteria end of the building.  Students will be issued a bus pass by their activity sponsor at 4:10 p.m., which allows them to board the bus.

School Pictures Wednesday, August 28
School pictures will be taken this Wednesday.  All students will be photographed to update our student database and records.
If you wish to purchase a picture package, you can do so by either 1) going to www.WagnerPortraitGroup.com or 2) returning the completed order form (with payment) directly to the photographers on Wednesday.  The office will not be collecting order forms that day.
If you have questions, concerns or special requests, please direct them to Wagner Portrait Groups at 314-567-5900.  If for some reason your child is absent on Wednesday, we will have a Re-Take Day on Wednesday, October 9.  Should you need another order form, there are extras in the Welcome Center Office.

Bus Passes
In the past, students and parents have been able to request a bus pass for unique situations (i.e. riding home with a friend, etc.).  These have usually been for a day or for a short period of time and are always subject to available space.  Bus pass forms are available through the Welcome Center.
Based upon information from our Transportation Department, bus passes for the following cannot be granted until further notice:  L3, L5, L7, L9, L16, L17, and L20.

Good afternoon, everyone.

I hope you all have had a great week.  I think we’ve had a pretty good first eight days of school.  Kids and staff are still smiling here on a Friday afternoon, so that’s a good sign.
This will be a little on the long side, but I want to make sure I have everything covered for the coming week.

Meet The Teacher Night (summary)
Thank you to everyone who attended on Wednesday evening.  Thank you as well to everyone who took the time to provide feedback through Scott’s online survey.  We had a chance to scan through the responses this morning in our weekly Principal/Counselor meeting and will have time soon to go through these in more detail for next year.
Any confusion pertaining to the 8th Grade Sports Meeting is my fault.  I initially posted this as occurring from 8:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.  I now remember being told that coaches would not need that much time.  The corrected time was included in Scott’s schedule, but I never made the change in the Calendar Events section.  Sorry.

After School Activities beginning August 27 through October 10
After School Activities for Quarter 1 have just been posted to the LMS website.  If you do a search for Ladue Middle School and get the page with a picture of the Cafeteria and administrators, please click on the “Visit School Website” button above my head.  Once on the school website, click the “Activities” tab across the top (fourth from left).  A drop down menu will then provide you with choices.  Just select “After School Activities.”  You then should be provided with four options, listed by Quarter.  I hope that “Quarter 1” is displayed in blue.  If so, you should then be able to click on that for a full listing for the dates August 27 through the end of this quarter.
The Activity period will begin at 3:10 and conclude at 4:10 p.m.  Activity Buses will be available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for those students who normally ride a bus.  They should be here for student loading around 3:40 p.m.  We try to get all five buses on site and loaded before releasing them from the front lot.  They will try to park near the Library, so if you are picking your child up by car, please do so closer to the Cafeteria end of the building.

Internet Safety Resources
Scott has provided some sights you might be interested in checking out.

School Pictures Wednesday, August 28
Flyers/Order Forms have been distributed to students and should be coming home today.  Please look these over this weekend and return with your students, including information regarding your desired picture package and payment, next Wednesday morning.  These will go directly to the photographers.  Your student should hang on to these until they arrive in the Gym for pictures at their scheduled time.  They do not need to turn them in to the Office.
If for some reason your child is absent on Wednesday, we will have a Re-Take Day on Wednesday, October 9.

8th Grade Sports Packets
These will be due by September 3.  They can be given to Coach Theodosiou, any PE coach, or to the coach of the particular sport on the first day of practice.

7th Grade Kansas City Trip Packets
These were distributed to 7th Grade students yesterday through their Social Studies classes.  Please read these and begin filling them out.  They are due back to their Social Studies teacher by September 20.

6th Grade Camp Packets
These went home this Monday.  Please return required information/forms to your student’s 8th period teacher.  They are due by September 6.

Traffic update
Although far from perfect, morning traffic has exceeded my expectations.  If everyone could please turn right out of our lot onto Clayton, it would help greatly.
     Some reminders:
·      We do not have scheduled supervision in the Lobby until 7:40 a.m.
·      It appears that the bulk of our traffic, both cars and buses, occurs from around 8:00 to 8:10 a.m.  If you can work around this period of time, you might find less of a backup getting onto and off the lot.

Thanks,

Meet The Teacher Night

This evening is for you, the parents, and us to do a brief meet and greet and share some general information about your child’s classes.  Due to the limited timeline for tomorrow evening, more extensive conversations about your child’s unique needs, abilities and progress are better served either through other communications or meetings, and/or at Parent Teacher Conferences in late October.

What follows is a schedule for tomorrow evening.  This flyer should have arrived at your homes last Friday afternoon through backpack mail.
Plan to arrive early, as parking is limited.  Shuttle Service is recommended and provided from Ladue Chapel (9450 Clayton Road, St. Louis, MO 63124) to the circle drive from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.  Look for a blue canopy and yellow sign on the south end of the parking lot at Ladue Chapel indicating the pick-up point.  The drop-off and pick-up location at LMS will be the flagpole in front of the building.

Your child will be given a copy of their schedule to bring home on Tuesday, August 20.  Please bring this schedule with you.  There will also be copies of schedules available in the lobby or by the gym when you arrive.

6:30 pm – Welcome from Administration, Counselors, Parent Association, & Dad’s Club
Parents will report directly to your child’s first period at 6:55pm.  See specific grade level schedules below and refer to your child’s schedule for specific class period information.

As mentioned, copies of students’ schedules have been distributed to students this afternoon to deliver home.  Please ask them for the schedule when they arrive home.  We will have extra copies of schedules in both the Welcome Center and the Gym entrance, but having this in hand will save you some time standing in line.  At the conclusion of the parent meeting in the Gym, we will dismiss you by grade level to begin following your student’s schedule.

At the risk of being repetitive, parking on campus is a challenge.  I would take advantage of the shuttle being offered from Ladue Chapel if you can.  Please also be aware that we need to keep our handicapped cutouts open on the Circle Drive.  They will be designated by the green cones.  In order for the shuttle buses to exit the Circle Drive, we will also need to keep a portion of the Conway Road exit free from parking as well.  This area will be marked with orange cones.  If you park in the back parking lot, or next to the Admin Center, be aware that the doors on the back of the Gym will be unlocked for you to enter.

I hope that I haven’t forgotten anything.  If so, I will send a follow up.  We look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening, if you can make it.

Thank you for your time,

Greg
