Summer Reading Program
Prevent the Summer Slide - Make Sure Your Child Participates in Our New Summer Reading Program!  Did you know that, on average, students lose between one and three months of growth in reading skills over the summer? However, studies show that this "summer slide" is easy to prevent. Students who read just four books (or 1200 minutes of reading) over the summer maintain their skills (and those who read more become even better readers).
Our goal is to encourage every student to read for fun this summer! Summer is the perfect time to fall in love with reading. With that goal in mind, the LMS library is now offering summer checkout to all current 6th and 7th graders who will be returning to LMS next year. Students may borrow up to five books to take home for the summer. Please encourage your children to take advantage of this opportunity, and make time for them to read!
To further encourage your children to read, LMS will be offering incentives to all LMS students who participate in the St. Louis County Library's summer reading program. Simply Click on the link at the end of this paragraph to register for the Summer Reading Club @St. Louis County Library (no county library card is required to be eligible for a prize from LMS). At the end of the summer the county library will share student reading logs with the LMS library. Those who log at least 1,200 minutes of reading at an appropriate level will win a gift card to an area business (Smoothie King, Barnes and Noble, Companion, Baskin Robbins, Deer Creek Coffee, etc.). Please go here to register. http://slcl.readsquared.com/ The SLCL also has a summer reading club for adults, so you can make it a family affair!
Thank you for supporting literacy and reading in your home! Please visit the LMS Library website for more information or contact Melody Frese, our Library Media Specialist at mfrese@ladueschools.net if you have any questions.

NURSE NOTES

Immunization Information
There have been some immunization changes required by the state of Missouri that will affect students going into 8th grade next school year. Students entering 8th grade will now be required to have a meningitis immunization and a Tdap immunization prior to starting 8th grade. Your child may have already had both of these immunizations. Please check with your pediatrician to see if these have been completed and, if not, get an appointment scheduled.
Please send the updated immunization records that reflect that your child has these immunizations. You may fax these to (314) 983-5965 or mail in a paper copy of the record to the LMS Nurse's Office. For more information please go to:

Have a great summer,
