December 16, 2014

My apologies for not getting an Update out either last Friday or over the weekend.

On a personal note, I have successfully avoided some dental surgery for the past thirty-five years.  It has now caught up to me and, as a result, tomorrow will be my last full day before the beginning of the holiday break.  With a few moments available before leaving for home, I wanted to share the following with you before tomorrow got away from me.

CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS

Congratulations to the LMS Science Olympiad student team members and coaches for their 1st and 3rd place finishes on Saturday, December 6, at the Southern Illinois Invitational.  Great job!

Congratulations go out to three student Robotics teams who participated in the Eastern Missouri State Tournament on Sunday, December 7.
·      The Neon Electrons, with team members Claire Englander, Grace Hardester, Maggie Lochmoeller, Rebecca Cunningham, Rose Coughlin, Grace Chicoine.  The team won the Project Research Award.
·      The Fiery Phoenixes, with team members Hale Masaki, Joel Willick, Nicolas Chicoine, Andrew Fruend, Alex Zhou and Ethan Willick.  The team earned the third highest score on the Robot Table.
·      The Electric Monkeys, with team member Will Stoneman and students from our Fifth Grade Center.
This year, more than 240 teamed competed in ten qualifying tournaments in November.  Only forty teams qualified to advance to the Championship tournament.  Including an additional team from the Fifth Grade Center, Ladue was represented by four of the forty teams that qualified for the state competition.

For parents of current 8th grade students
A scheduling/informational meeting for current 8th grade students who plan on attending Ladue Horton Watkins High School next year, and their parents, will be held on January 7 at the LHWHS Performing Arts Center.  The meeting will begin at 7 pm.

From the Nurse
The nurse wants to remind all parents that students are NOT allowed to transport any medications to school.  Parents must deliver and pick up all medications to and from the nurse and ALL medications require a signature from a doctor - including all over the counter medicines.  Click here for a copy of the Medication Administration Form.

Or you can also visit the nurse's web page on the LMS website.

10 Apps you might want to look at
I am attaching a copy of an article recently shared by Tony Tramelli of West County Psychological Associates regarding new apps that you might want to be aware of in terms of student/adolescent use.  If you read my Updates via the blog, this attachment will be accessible through the Blackboard Connect email.

LMSPA / Gift & Project
The following is from the LMSPA Co-Presidents: Jodi Blucher and Jodi Minkler.
WHAT IS GIFT & PROJECT?  The Gift & Project (lovingly called G & P) Fundraiser is the LMSPA's biggest and most important fundraiser of the school year.  It takes place two times per year: Winter (around the holidays) and Spring (near the end of the school year).  Through this fundraiser, families donate to the LMSPA in honor of our wonderful Ladue Middle School Faculty and Staff.  As a family, you decide whom you wish to honor with your donation.  Each staff member then receives a letter informing them of who has honored them by donating to the LMSPA (donation amounts are not disclosed).  The money raised then goes to gifts and projects that the LMSPA funds for our school community each year.
A letter was mailed to your home describing some of the many things that the Gift & Project Fundraiser has helped to do for our school.  The Winter Gift & Project letter and the Winter Gift & Project staff acknowledgment form are also attached to this email.  Donations may be dropped off at the LMS office or made online via PayPal at MyLMSPA.com.
The deadline for Winter Gift & Project donations has been extended until Monday, December 15th.  While we accept and appreciate all donations, any made after Monday, December 15th are not guaranteed to be listed on the acknowledgment letters that the staff will receive before winter break.
If you haven't already donated, we hope that you will consider honoring your teachers and others with a tax-deductible donation.

Although some weeks have been busier and more involved than the norm, the semester as a whole has gone by very quickly.  At the risk of being repetitive, I sincerely feel blessed to work with you, your students, and our staff.

I would like to pass along my hopes for a safe, joyous holiday season for you and your families.

Best wishes to you all,

Greg
