May 3, 2015

Good afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who helped make last Friday night’s 8th Grade Semi Formal a great success.  The kids seemed to have a great time.

We have the opportunity this week to honor two special groups of people who help make LMS a great place to work and learn.  May 4 through 8 is Teacher Appreciation Week AND School Nutrition Employees Week.

CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS

We would like to thank the LMSPA, LMS Staff, and Eighth grade parents so much for all the support they gave to ensure that we could have such a memorable Eighth Grade Semi-formal.  We could not have done it without your gracious time, talents and financial support.  A special thank you to Terry Hobbs and Switch Liberate Your Brand for donating all the decorations and signage to make our event so special.  Thank you also to College Hunks for lending us their muscle, and our custodian Milan Rakic for his hard work above and beyond his normal duties.
Sincerely,
Michelle Hawkins and Abby Hahn

NEW ITEMS

Apogee Fundraiser Project
Apogee 8th graders have big plans to hold a sale during lunches May 4 – 8 to raise money for Fight for the Forgotten, a non-profit making life-altering impact in the remote parts of the Congo jungle by working to free the Mbuti people from slavery and then develop sustainability.  Their business is called LMSports - with a Sports/survival theme. The will have water bottles with built-in filters and portable phone chargers for $8 each, and football-shaped stress balls for $4 each on sale during lunch shifts this week.  Their goal is to raise $1,000.00 to donate to Fight for the Forgotten.  The students researched and chose this cause themselves.

Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will run Monday, May 4 - May 6.  Hours will be 7:30 - 3:30 in the LMS Library.  All students will visit the Book Fair with their English/Language Arts classes.

UPDATED ITEMS

REPEAT ITEMS

From the Nurse
The nurse wants to remind all parents that students are not allowed to transport any medications to school.  Parents must deliver and pick up all medications to and from the nurse and ALL medications require a signature from a doctor - including all over the counter medicines.  A Medication Administration Form is to be completed when your child will come into our office and we will administer medication to them. This covers ANY prescription medication and/or over-the-counter medication. This form must be signed by a parent and accompanied by the prescription in the original bottle. If it is an over-the-counter medication, the form must also be signed by a physician.  Click on the link below to access the form or you may also visit the nurse's web page  on the LMS website.

Current 7th grade students/Immunizations for next year
Students entering 8th grade in the state of Missouri are required to receive the TDaP (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) immunization.  This is usually given by a doctor at age 11 or 12.  If your child has not received this immunization, please consult your physician.  If you have records showing that your child has received it, please provide them to the nurse's office.
