13 Reasons Why
Good afternoon. I just sent out a parent email through Blackboard Connect regarding the information below from our Guidance Office. I also included the document in that email from the National Association of School Psychologists for your information.
You may have heard about the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, a story about a girl who commits suicide and leaves tapes behind explaining the reasons why and the people she holds accountable. The series raises concern about the potential risk posed by the sensationalized treatment of youth suicide, especially among vulnerable students. The attached document from the National Association of School Psychologists provides guidance to adults and schools in terms of handling conversations that occur about the series.
As always, please let your student's counselor know if you have any concern about your child with regard to suicidal thoughts or interest in self-harm. We always contact parents if teachers or students express concern about one of our students having these thoughts.
