May 5, 2017

Good afternoon.  It is great to look out my office window as see sunshine.

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU’s

Congratulations to member of the LMS 8th grade Science Bowl team, which placed 4th in the nation in Washington D.C. last weekend.  This marks the third year in a row that the middle school team has ranked in the top 10 in the country.  Their 4th place ranking is a new record for both LMS and the state of Missouri!  Team members are:  Harry Chen, Eric Yin, William Pan, Stephen Jiang and Jason Ding.  The team also took fourth place in Cyber challenge (a second competition that they go into not know exactly what they have to do).

Congratulations to LMS students William Xie, Ashna Chali, Yuvan Chali, and Lauren Xie, who competed in the recent state chemistry competition You Be the Chemist.  All four of these students made it in the top ten and two were named final four finalists. Ashna placed fourth overall and William finished second, after narrowly being defeated by one question.

Thank you to the LMSPA for helping us celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week.  As always, your support and thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated!

Congratulations and thank you to the students who were honored at our recent Diversity Cadre African American Student Recognition Night on Thursday and their parents and family members.  It was a wonderful evening!  Thank you, as well, to Dr. Tiffany Taylor-Johnson, members of the LMS Diversity Cadre, Mary LoBosco (AP Secretary), other office and custodial staff, and staff members who made this yearly event possible.
A special congratulations to Udonne Eke-Okoro and Jameson Falconer, who were named Diversity Cadre Students of the Year!

LMSPA's Spring Gift & Project: Teacher Tributes and 8th Grade Legacy Gift Fundraiser
Honor our wonderful Ladue Middle School teachers and staff with the LMSPA's Spring fundraiser!  Thank you to everyone who has already made a donation!
If you haven't already, you may make a donation via check or cash and submit with a completed paper copy of the donation form to the LMS office, or you may contribute online and submit your donation form online at:
http://www.mylmspa.com/ (Under "Support")
Each LMS staff member will receive a letter in the last few days of the school year listing the names of all those who made a donation in his or her honor.  This fundraiser allows you to honor any LMS teachers and staff who have touched your student's life and/or your family's life in some way.  You may honor as many LMS staff members as you'd like with your donation.
In order to be guaranteed to be included on the staff acknowledgment letters, donations must be received by Monday, May 8th.  8th grade families, your donations will help complete the new LMS library furniture project.  Participating students' names will be listed in the 8th Grade Farewell Assembly program.  6th grade families and 7th grade families, your donations will support the many important LMSPA programs and activities throughout the year that benefit LMS students, families, and teachers and staff.  The funds raised every year through this fundraiser make up a substantial portion of the annual LMSPA budget.  Donations are tax-deductible.
We hope that you will make a tax-deductible Spring Gift & Project: Teacher Tributes donation and/or an 8th Grade Legacy Gift donation to support the LMSPA.  Questions?  Please contact our co-chairs of this fundraiser, Melissa Garza (melissahgarza@gmail.com) or Julie Stappenbeck (jstappenbeck@yahoo.com).
Thank you very much for your support!

Camp Opportunity for 8th grade boys
If your son is interested in participating in Cross Country to LHWHS next fall, you may wish to check out the following:

8th Grade Parents
Are you going to have an incoming freshman at Ladue Horton Watkins High School for the 2017-2018 school year? If your child will be a freshman and is planning on participating in athletics, the Athletics & Activities Office must have a current physical and parent permission on file. These forms must be dated on or AFTER February 1, 2017 to be valid for the 2017-2018 school year. Please visit the athletics tab on the LHWHS website to download the needed forms (http://lhwhs.ladueschools.net/athletics/), or stop by the Athletics and Activities Office.
The first day of fall sports practice is July 31, 2017.  We encourage students to turn in the needed paperwork to the Athletics Office as soon as possible.  Athletes will NOT be permitted to practice without a current physical and parent permission on file with the Athletics Office.
As a reminder, all athletes must pay the $75 activity fee prior to the first MSHSAA sponsored event. The fee can be paid after June 1, 2017, one of three (3) ways: cash, check or online through www.myschoolbucks.com.

Attention rising 7th and 8th grade parents!
Order your school supplies for Ladue Middle School.
The LMSPA is coordinating a school supply sale for the 2017-18 school year.  Your child should have brought home a school supply order form in his/her backpack this week (first week of April).
The grade level packs include items from the Ladue Middle School generic school supply lists.  The packs DO NOT contain PE clothes - these can be purchased at LMS at a later date.  Make sure when you are ordering that you are buying supplies for the grade your student will be in for the 2017-18 school year.  Please note that some teachers may have additional class-specific items that will need to be purchased once school begins.
Order online using the Educational Products Inc. website by June 12 for delivery to school by packet pickup and Community Night in August.  Go to www.educationalproducts.com/shoppacks and enter school ID LAD024.  Sales tax will be added at checkout.

NURSE DANI NOTES

Immunization Requirement Changes
In the past year there have been some immunization changes required by the state of Missouri that will affect students going into 8th grade next school year. Students entering 8th grade will now be required to have a Meningitis immunization and a Tdap immunization prior to starting 8th grade. Your child may have already had both of these immunizations!
Please check with your pediatrician to verify if these have been completed. If not, please begin making appointments at your earliest convenience. Take advantage of the upcoming breaks to get this requirement out of the way. Do not wait until August when physician offices are booked.
You can send the updated immunization records that reflect that your child has these immunizations. The nurse's office will accept these records immediately - no need to wait until summer.
You may email, fax, or send in a copy of the record to the nurse's office.
